Care Following Dental Implants

We have just completed the prosthesis for your oral implants. Such implants have been placed successfully for over 25 years. The following information will be interesting and useful for you relative to future expectations for your implants and the prosthesis placed on them.

Acceptance of dental implants by bone and gum tissue has been excellent, however a few implants fail. Additionally, the prosthesis that have been placed over the implants are subject to wear and/or breakage. Any of the following conditions that occur require your immediate attention. Please contact us if any of the following conditions occur:

  1. Feeling of looseness
  2. Peculiar
  3. Clicking or metallic snap while eating
  4. Breaking a piece of the prosthesis
  5. Redness in the gum tissue around the implant
  6. Feeling of the bite being different
  7. Pain
We have done our best to provide to you the highest quality service available. The continuing success of the implant and prosthesis is up to you. Please do the following items checked:
  1. Visit us for examination, scaling, and polishing at least once every six months.
  2. Clean the implant daily, especially before bedtime using:
  3. Floss
  4. Bridge cleaner
  5. Toothbrush
  6. Interplak mechanical toothbrush
  7. Peridex

Your failure to accomplish thorough cleaning of the implant prosthesis daily will compromise its longevity significantly. We expect years of service from this therapy. Over a number of years, you will gradually wear out the prosthesis portion.

Sleep Dentistry known as Conscious Sedation

I have been using Conscious Sedation in the office since 1984. However, in the past the application was limited to only those cases that were high risk. Most of those cases I felt that it was in the patients best interest to work with an MD Anesthesiologist. With the advancements of short acting high-tech drugs and reversal agents, a whole new dimension has been introduced to my profession and practice. The training was very demanding and the license is difficult to maintain but the results are very safe. I have a very efficient office and staff that is ready for all emergencies.

The reason that Conscious Sedation is so safe today is due to the new category of drugs called reversal agents. I only use drugs in the dental office that can be totally reversed in less than a minute! Think about the brilliance behind this new category of drugs. I am able to give the patient enough medication that I can complete some or all of the patient’s dental work in one visit. If at any time I feel that there is something wrong or the monitors say the patient needs to be more awake, I am able to introduce the reversal drugs and within seconds the patient is fully alert and safe.
I have been in dentistry 29 years. I have been blessed with the gift of being able to provide all my patients with most all their dental needs. Now, I am able to even touch the lives of those patients that just fear going to the dentist. This fear is real and has been a problem in the past. Today, these patients that have not been cared for properly in the past are able to have their dentistry completed while they are resting. There is absolutely no recall of the visit or any work that was completed. Personally, I feel these new drugs and their application in dentistry is one of the greatest advancements I have seen in my profession.

If you have had problems in the past with traumatic experiences in the dental office, let me show you how easy it is to save your smile while you “sleep” in our fully equipped state of the art private operating facility.

3D Cone Beam Technology

The Next Generation of Dental X-Rays

Fifteen years ago I introduced digital imaging into my Glendale dental practice to improve diagnostic capabilities and reduce the radiation requirements of each exposure. Now we are introducing the latest in radiographic technology called 3D Cone Beam Technology. This technology allows me to capture and reproduce the detailed 3D anatomy of the skull in a reliable, affordable way, while emitting low doses of radiation. Using the combined advancements in CT scanning and 3D Sterio-lithic surgical and prosthetic computerized reconstruction, I am continuing my commitment to my patients of providing them with the most advanced and safest technology available.

Dental Implants

Our cosmetic dentistry has specialized over years on dental implants. Dr. Gary O’Brien understands the negative effects that missing teeth have on a person’s confidence and self-esteem. He knows the importance on a patient’s life of being capable to live without embarrassment and inconvenience while eating, talking or even just smiling; some of the actions that for most of us happen unaware may be actions that patients suffering this condition avoid at all cost to do.

You might not be as lonely as you think with your problem. In fact, you will realize why it’s so unnecessary to sleep over a solution when it is already handy: If you lost a tooth or more due to an accident or a periodontal disease but you are in generally good oral health, your solution is given here and you just have to scroll down to read it.
